Martin Reyes Armenta Fray

Martin Efraín Reyes Armenta, also known as “Fray Martin”—a childhood nickname given by his mother in homage to San Martín de Porres—uses the name as his pen name. Writing has always been his way of connecting with the world, and his books are like pieces of his life, stitched together with stories, memories, and a whole lot of heart.

As a former boxer, his early works revolve around the world of boxing, with titles like El Campeón, Historia de un Campeón, and Entre los puños y la Razón. His passion for athletics didn’t stop there—he ventured into running and penned El Espíritu del Corredor. Childhood dreams of being a cowboy-inspired La leyenda del Güero Vaquero, while his time as an altar boy at the Inmaculada Concepción church in Mexicali, led him to explore religious themes in El Penúltimo Sabio and its sequel, Simeón el Penúltimo Sabio parte dos.

His books are deeply personal, reflecting his experiences and observations. Witnessing the struggles of farmers in Tepic, Nayarit, moved him to write María Ramona, a story of resilience and justice. His love for mystery and detective tales gave life to Jaime Bueno in Anécdotas de un Detective, while his mother’s poetry inspired Poesías y Reflexiones.

He has also explored mythology with El Rey David y la Sandalia Mágica, blending ancient Greek legends with modern storytelling. Addressing societal issues, he wrote Efra to shed light on youth battling addiction and Héroes Anónimos Covid 19 to honor those who fought during the pandemic. His latest work, La Buchona de Culiacán, explores themes of ambition and identity in today’s world.

He writes without “salt,” as he likes to say, leaving it to his readers to add their own flavor to his stories. He thanks readers for joining him on this journey through his “locuras.”
